Welcome to the tenth edition of Pixel Progression!
Today we've got some bittersweet news that we plan on balancing with some hype, for all you fisherfolk.
Season 2
To get this going right off the bat, let me start by saying we'll be extending season 2 by 3 more weeks. This means it will go until April 8th.
Some will be happy about this as they haven't finished up their passes yet, but understandably some will be bummed.
First, to make those 3 weeks go by faster there will be a large amount of fishing events and drops for fishing gear! You'll starts seeing them appear soon, with the majority showing up after the season's original ending date.
Now I'm sure are wondering WHY it's being delayed, and it's a good question! First, we have a few backend economy health things we're working on that is taking up dev time, and for ME personally I'm in the midst of tax season and trying to wrap that up.
But the bigger reason is that what we're planning for season 3 is a BIG task, and something everyone can come to love and enjoy for the long run. More about that below!
Season 3
Welcome to the introduction of Season 3, The Season of the Booty.
PIRATES! Everyone knew we'd do pirates eventually, and we are ready to explore it now that Halloween and Christmas are behind us.
Season 3 will introduce great things including, but not limited to, the following:
- New permanent location
- New season pass, both paid and free tracks
- New creatures
- New skills and challenges
We'd also like to let you know WHY this season is taking longer, because the above content isn't a 3 week's delay worth. But what is, is a BRAND NEW minigame that will be hosted on our website.
We're bringing multiplayer fishing to dankmemer.lol along with season 3.
Multiplayer Fishing
We wanted to find a way to get fisherfolk to interact besides JUST leaderboards or being hyped over random events.
We're not ready to share a ton of details yet, but players will be able to visit our website and be able to:
- Create private lobbies
- Connect into a party of 2-4 people
- Compete with each other to earn exclusive fishing loot
- Wager against each other
- Play an interactive skill-based (but not complex) game
We are very excited about this, and we know you guys will be too. Closer to release, we'll have an entire pixel progression post dedicated to details and screenshots of the site in action, along with an FAQ section to answer any questions you'll surely have.
Player Support
Starting with this edition, we're going to try and give information on ongoing known issues or common points of confusion.
Clarification
We've seen people confused on how freemium streaks change the outcome of their freemium rewards. As we've said at launch, a higher streak gives a SMALL boost to the luck of the RNG draw of cards. This does not mean you'll always get better things, and even with a 1000 streak it's possible to not get anything good. It's how RNG works, and is intended.
Known Issues
These are issues we know about, and don't need reported right now.
- It is not realistic to get the vote badge right now
- Valentines fish guidebook skin has broken pages
- Some commands aren't working in some larger servers, like user leaderboards
- Get the full list here: Public bug tracker
Upcoming Hotfixes
Early next week we will be releasing a patch to fix a few small issues, as well as a general economy balance pass. We have data showing some clear and present outliers in coin gain that we'll reign in, as well as some stinkers that aren't nearly rewarding enough. (This is also when the season 2 end date will be changed in game)
Community Shoutouts
Something I'd like to do each time we post one of these, is take a moment to call out cool things happening in the community.
Clan Suggestion
A well thought out clan suggestion. What do you think?
Some people have too much luck
Ever feel like some people suck up all the luck and leave none for everyone else? Well that's TOTALLY a feature /s
Wrapup
It's always hard as a game developer to announce a delay, but hopefully we've shown historically the wait has been worth it. We delay things when we want to build big and great systems, and this is what we expect season 3 and multiplayer fishing to be.
Get some rest, do your taxes, and drink water. A few weeks from now you'll be swimming in it.
