Season 6 Survey Feedback
Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete the survey and provide responses. Five players with well thought out, constructive feedback have also received 5,000 gems each for their answers.
I read every single answer and have already reached out to a couple of you directly. With over 3000 responses, that clearly won’t be possible for everyone who wrote comments. I’ll share a few insights into the data we collected at the end of the post.
A common feedback point is that there’s been a lot of focus on fishing and simpler commands are being neglected. While that’s ironic feedback in a fishing survey, those who feel that way may like what’s coming in the next section.
Upcoming Updates (sneak peeks!)
New Grind Command!
The development of a new simple grind command with smaller rewards similar to dig or hunt started last week. If you’re in our community server https://discord.gg/memers, you may have already seen Mel share a few of the responses from it!
The new command and the omega/leveling changes which were explained in the last blog post will be released before the next fishing season starts.
Fishing Season 7
Can you believe we’ve already had 6 full seasons? Fishing 2.0 was released around 18 months ago!
The next season will:
- be 2 months instead of 3
- have a shorter and very slightly cheaper pass
- have a new location
With the start of the next season, we’re also going to be adding the "simple fishing" mode. When enabled, fishing will just be a grind command from which you get coins.
New NPC (not just in fishing)
The merchant NPC will be released early next month. It won’t be limited to fishing and won’t only offer fishing related deals.
Previous Updates
Pets 2.0
The overhaul of the pets system was a huge change, bringing a ton of new features which are a major improvement to the previous system. I’m really enjoying all the decorated rooms you’ve been sharing! A design competition for them will be held in the community server later this year.
Unlike fishing 2.0 which was a new system, Dank Memer already had a pets system in place. One of the most complex aspects of software development when creating new features is making sure any existing data is properly migrated and working in a new system. This was especially true for the pets update since many of the new commands are completely different from how old pet commands worked. A few minor bugs did slip through the cracks, but overall the change was a big success.
That's why I wanted to briefly say thanks to the testers who volunteered their time trying to break the new commands and find as many bugs as possible before the update was released. We appreciate your help!
Fishing Survey Insights
As promised, here’s a few more charts from the last survey.
About 50% of you think the number of tiers is good as they are. The rest is almost evenly split between wanting more or thinking it’s too many. That’s a pretty good indicator of it being fair the way it is.
I guess a lot of you fisherfolk are also grinders, and you really don’t enjoy fighting. Surprising to me was how many of you spent more time robbing than fishing. Pets is likely inaccurate since this survey happened before the pets update.
No big surprises here, I think. Economy items placing first by a large margin was to be expected. The season pass, arguably, has one of the highest returns on investments for gems.
A few more highlights that don’t require charts:
- 60% of you like NPCs in general.
- 71% have NPC interactions enabled while not working on a challenge that requires them.
- 95% of you felt favorably about the changes to badge requirements for skills.
- 71% prefer boss chances now to season 5.
- 66% prefer mythical chances now to season 5.
Closing Words
That's all for this post, stay tuned for more sneak peeks in DMC as we keep working on the newest commands.
