Evolution

Dank Memer exists solely because we're willing to evolve and innovate. A few years back, our bot didn't even have currency and we added it to help our growth. At launch it was only coins, no items. We evolved to add items because it would bring the game to the next level. Well we're doing that again with skins.

Discord has made it entirely clear bots that have any form of gambling will not be allowed to benefit from being on this platform. We still at the moment have no concrete plans to remove gambling or lootboxes, but we are going to start down the avenue of moving to new forms of monetization in case we do need to make that drastic change. Today is the first step in that, and it's all free so far!

What are skins?

Games these days thrive on more than just buying lootboxes, and for good reason! Cosmetics and collecting them are the name of the game, and that's what we're doing here. We know a massive portion of our users like collecting things, and just today we're adding nearly 100 new things to collect in the form of skins for items, pets, and your farm.

Skins are a way to change how your own personal items, pets, and farm look. You can use the command: command:(skins view) to view your unlocked skins. You will start with 3 by default as of this update.

You can view all available ITEM skins by visiting dankmemer.lol/items and clicking on items that have skins to view. Pet skins are currently hidden until you unlock them and not able to be found on the website, but in the future we might change that.

Skins are also a new collector stat able to be found in your profile collector stats view! Warning, it'll be hard to ever 100% as we plan on continuing to add new skins every major update!

How do I get skins?

Skins are meant to be a reward type anywhere within the bot. For this first update, they can be found in the following places:

  • Hunt
  • Fish
  • Dig
  • Vote Levels
  • Holiday Adventure

In the future we'll be adding skins to more places such as rewards for quests, daily (in-game) shop rotations, omega shop rotations, and more!

How do I equip a skin I own?

You run either command:(skin select item), command:(skin select pet), or command:(skin select farm).

Item skin selection will show all items have have available skins in the autocomplete, not just items you have skins unlocked for.

The autocomplete is only able to show up to 25 things at once so be sure to use the command:(skins view) command to see what you actually have unlocked!

This UI might change in the future as we add new types of skins to new commands, but for now this will be how you make it happen!

What is skin rarity?

Skins have rarity based on their global amount unlocked relative to other skins of their type.

That means if the googly eye'd pet rock skin is one the most common skins globally, it will be common rarity.

Rarity is tracked separately for items and pets, and they'll change dynamically as big shifts in unlocks happen. At launch we expect things to fluctuate and be weird for up to a month while we work on balancing unlocks and users run certain commands more than others to get skins they want.

Also important to note, no skins are exclusive anywhere. The winter skin items, such as the legacy santa hat, are not exclusive to the winter event. Meaning if it's a common rarity item and 4 months from now a command has a chance to give you a common rarity item, you can get the santa hat skin from it.

"I've got a skin request"

We're happy to take your item skin suggestions! Just keep in mind our art team has limited time and is also working on other large art heavy projects that have not released yet.

As for feature requests, I'll address this now: We will never allow users to trade or send skins.

"I'm worried about skins being real money only"

When and if we start selling skins, or selling ways to unlock skins, we are not planning to let any skins be un-obtainable in-game without paying. Every skin in the game should be obtainable to any free to play user, even if we offer routes to unlock skins faster for monetization later.

As an avid gamer myself, too often I've played games where all the best skins are locked behind paywalls with no way to get it other than forking out $5, $10, even $20. That's scummy and not something I'll support as long as I run this bot.

We'll find a happy medium to monetization for us, and skins for everyone. You have my word!

Skins!

Go out and unlock some skins sister, you earned (future tense) them.
