Fishing NPCs

Accessibility TLDR:

Learn about the NPCs that may visit you while fishing with Dank Memer. They can bring you gifts, request favors, trade items, and more. The more they like you, the more they visit, and the better rewards they bring. Each NPC is available in limited locations. Your fish guidebook can help you discover where you can meet them and can be used to help you see how your relationship is doing.

As you begin exploring the complex world of fishing with Dank Memer and start filling your buckets with fish after fish, prepare yourself to meet a brand-new cast of colorful, non-playable characters (NPCs). These characters are here to add a touch of unpredictability and excitement to every fishing session, as you never know when they may stop by or what they’ll have to say.

The NPCs available may change over time, and there may even be limited-time characters in the future, so make sure to meet as many of them as possible while they're available!

What are NPCs?

The Dank Memer NPCs are a variety of characters you can interact with while using the fishing command. Each character has a unique personality, and you’ll get to know them better as you interact. Keep in mind, though, as you get to know the NPCs, they’ll also get to know you! How you treat each character matters, and they will remember whether you are naughty or nice to them.

Zara Grey’s NPC page in guidebook.

Your trusty guidebook (/fish guide) has one page for each NPC you might encounter while fishing. The guidebook will tell you more about them and show you a relationship status bar as you meet them. The status bar shows how the NPC feels about you and whether you have a positive reputation and are in the blue area, a negative reputation in the red, or you’ve stayed in the middle and have a neutral reputation.

Your reputation with an NPC matters because it affects how they interact with you. The more they like you, the more they will visit. They will also offer better trades and rewards for users they like, so you want to be friends with them to get the most benefits.

Each NPC also has specific locations they like to visit, and you can check the location pages in your guidebook to see what NPCs you can encounter in each spot.

As you meet an NPC in a location, their spot on the location page will be filled in. If you are having trouble finding a character, try one of the other locations they like to see if they are there instead. Each character will pick one spot to visit each day, and it’s the same for everyone, so you might have to search around to see which location the character has chosen.

In order to “complete” a location page in your guidebook, you need to meet the possible NPCs when they are visiting that specific location, and you must capture every creature possible for that place.

What do NPCs do?

While you are fishing, NPCs may stop by to visit. When an NPC visits, the messages will appear below your fishing game and will ping you to help make sure you don’t miss the visitor.

Currently, there are five reasons an NPC might visit you:

  • To Talk - NPCs are people too, and they want to be friends. When one stops by to have a chat, how you respond will affect your reputation. The chat visits can change what the NPC thinks of you, so make sure to consider your reply carefully before you choose an option. Also, pay attention to how the NPC’s face changes with your reply to see if they liked your response or not, so you know whether it is a good choice to pick again next time. NPC chat message.
  • To Bring a Gift - Sometimes the NPCs decide to bring you a gift. You don’t have to accept or deny this gift, and it is automatically added to your inventory. The more an NPC likes you, the better the gifts can be. NPC offering a gift.
  • To Request a Catch - While fishing, if you catch something an NPC wants, they may stop by to ask you if they can have it. You do not have to give up the fish you just caught, but accepting the request will help your reputation with the NPCs. If you accept, the NPC will take the creature and it will not go into your bucket storage. Requesting a catch.
  • To Offer a Trade - If an NPC sees you have something they like in your inventory, they may ask you to trade. They can ask for anything, and each NPC has a range of items they may offer you in return. There is no decline button on the trades, but you can decline the offer by ignoring the trade. Ignoring a trade will not hurt your reputation with an NPC. Zara Grey offering a trade.
  • To Give a Task - Sometimes an NPC will ask you to fish at a specific location, to catch a specific type of creature, or to use a certain type of bait. You can see how much time you will have to complete the task right above the accept or decline buttons, and if you accept, you can track your progress on the /fish catch embed when fishing. If you fail to complete the task, you’ll disappoint the NPC, so do your best! If the fish is not available right now or the location is one you don’t want to visit, you can decline the task, but it will harm your reputation with the NPC. NPC task assignment.

As you interact with the NPCs, remember that how you treat them matters! The nicer you are and the more you become friends, the more they stop to visit and the better rewards and gifts they offer you. You’ll notice their facial expression might change after you reply, so pay attention to their reactions to see how the NPC feels about what you’ve done.

If you don’t like the trade, you can reject it at any time by completely ignoring the message, and tasks and requests for what you caught can be declined. But remember, ignoring or declining an NPC request will hurt your reputation with them, and the less they like you, the lower the quality of rewards they may offer.

If certain NPCs like you enough, you can unlock exclusive items in the fishing shop available in /fish shop or /shop view.

From the /shop view menu, use the drop-down menu to switch to the fishing shop and see what being friends with one of these characters can unlock.

If you have trouble finding the NPCs when fishing, use your guidebook! Each character will be in one of their possible locations for the entire day, and the next day it could change. Try different locations to see where each NPC is hanging for the day, or ask friends to see if they’ve seen the NPC you’re looking for. The NPCs are in the same location for everyone each day.

As you get to know the NPCs, remember to track how they feel about you by checking the relationship bar on their page in the guidebook. If the pointer is venturing into the red zone, the NPC is starting to dislike you! If you want to improve your reputation with them, be nice and help them with what they ask so they visit more often and give you better rewards.

Giving away your fish or something from your inventory may be disappointing, but being friends with the NPCs has major benefits! So keep your fishing rod ready and your eyes peeled, as you never know who might drop by next!
