Welcome to Pixel Progression #28!

I wanted to hit the ground running in my new role, but trying to think of topics which would be interesting to all of you was a daunting task. I obviously wasn’t actively involved in the historical development of Dank Memer, so the focus of this post is on current/upcoming development and the command which led to me being active in DMC and eventually applying for the community manager role; fishing!

Upcoming Update

Those of you who know about our public roadmap, can see that the pets update is the next big release being worked on. Comparing the current system to the new one is like comparing fishing now to the old pls fish command. Some of the main highlights include:

  • Pet rooms!
  • Pet skills!
  • Pet sitters!
  • And more

While development is almost wrapped up, our newest batch of testers are now working hard to try to break the new features. As soon as the last bugs are fixed and we’re happy with the results, we’ll be releasing the updates and tutorials to explain the changes.

Video Tutorials

Dank Memer has over 150 commands and will cross 300 items with the next update! For new players, that can be quite overwhelming and many don’t know where to start. To help make things easier, we’ve started releasing a set of tutorial videos.

The first video is a beginners guide to help players get started with Dank Memer.

The second video explains grinding with flows and how to increase your multis to maximize profit!

The third video teaches players how to use the market to trade, how to effectively rob, how wagers in fighting work, and explains the regular recurring commands like work, stream, daily, weekly, and monthly.

If you haven’t watched them yet, check them out! You may learn something even if you’ve been using our bot for a while.

Planned Updates

Once pets have been released, we’ll be tackling the level rewards. There was a lot of feedback from the community and the consensus is: the current cost of omega levels is too high.

While there are a few end game players who are able to efficiently level grind, prestige and especially omega is out of reach for most others.

For the revamp, we’ll be:

  • making prestige and omega levels cheaper and
  • reducing the coins gained from level rewards.

This will NOT be a “nerf” for level grinders as the reduced omega/prestige costs will be directly in line with the changes to the coins earned from level rewards.

We’ll also be adding new items to the level rewards and additional functional and cosmetic omega rewards!

Previous Updates

Feelings were mixed at the start of the latest fishing season, but the numbers tell a different story. March 28th was an outlier in all of the charts due to the Idle Crack, Pass Cheesing, and an NPC Space Time Rift events all occurring that day.

combined manual and idle fish caught per day

The chart shows the total number of fish caught/day from manual fishing and idle combined. Despite idle having a slower catch time, the total number of fish caught increased. The initial peak at the start of the new season and gradual drop as players complete their pass was to be expected. Overall, it looks like more players are getting into fishing though.

total fish token rewards

This one shows the number of interactions which generated tokens in fishing. The light blue line shows rewards of a token amount (not the number of tokens generated) and the dark blue line shows the number of times tokens in a 4-40 range were awarded. This graph makes it clear that the changes to the Friends with the Trash Man skill were received well and many of you seem to still be using it. Even when the total number of fish caught decreased, the number of token interactions increased.

fish sold directly for coins

Selling fish caught directly for coins is something that interestingly peaked at the end of the last season and was also happening quite frequently at the start of the new season. I’m guessing that those of you who were actively fishing wanted to keep idle fish in buckets and chose to sell fish directly while trying to finish the season 5 pass or working on the new NPC challenges in season 6.

NPC item and interactions summary

The total number of NPC items generated in the timeframe of 2 months, along with the peak days and the total net value they generated. The key highlights here:

  • NPC interactions have more than doubled in season 6.
  • Due to the “shut up” challenge, Chet has the most interactions and items generated by a long shot.
  • Mysterious Figure had a lot of interactions in the last season, likely due to Mystic Pond being the most profitable location to fish at.
  • Despite only being available for 24 hours, the Dev Team NPC generated more net worth than any other NPC.

Surveys

We interact with a lot of you in the community server, but that’s only a small percentage of the playerbase and doesn’t always give us a good picture of how the majority use Dank Memer.

Since we’re always looking for ways to improve and make the bot more enjoyable for everyone using it, here’s your chance to give us some feedback on recent changes we’ve made. We have two active surveys at the moment with different questions.

An anonymous survey to improve Dank Memer

This is a small one to gauge how you feel about Dank Memer and let you make suggestions for new content:

Fishing Season 6 feedback

As the title says, the main focus of this survey is fishing. There are however a few questions for the non-fisherfolk out there.

We’ll evaluate your answers and use them to decide which direction to take with future seasons! A few participants who put effort into their answers will also be selected to receive gems!

Discord Components V2

Let’s start this by briefly going through the history of what Dank Memer’s messages have looked like over the years.

Those who have been on Discord or using Dank Memer for a long time might remember the times when a lot of messages were just plain text with markdown:

2021 voting rewards

or simple embeds:

2021 gamble rewards

A few of the responses also had buttons and/or drop-down menus at the bottom of the embed:

OG fight command

While there’s been a lot of changes since then, ranging from newer art made by a number of artists, more in depth stories for adventures, to the addition of complex systems like fishing 2.0, the last change that’s comparable to Components V2 would be the rewrite of 2022! With this API update, customization of the messages you see from Dank Memer has reached a new level, and every single bot command will be affected.

Before you start panicking, the way you use the commands won’t change; just the way they look will.

We’re no longer stuck trying to create complex interactions with the limitations of the old containers (embeds) and their components. There’s tons of options which will allow us to improve many commands by making them easier to use.

If you’ve been paying attention to the responses from commands, you’ll probably have noticed that several of them are already re-designed. Amongst the first to make use of the new API are:

  • serverevents
  • friend share
  • ephemeral confirmations
  • weekly/monthly

Here’s a sneak peek of what the market command will look like after it’s been updated

new market command

That’s right, the accept button next to the offer! That’s a lot more intuitive than the buttons at the bottom of the message.

Over the next weeks and months we’ll slowly be updating existing bot responses between working on new features.

Rules Explained

Staff in DMC and the support server often get asked to clarify the bot rules. That's something that none of them are able to do, as only our bot admins determine whether someone is breaking the rules or not. Since a few of the questions have been asked quite frequently, we decided to publish a blog post to help clear up some of the confusion. If you're ever unsure whether something you plan on doing is allowed or not, you may find your answer there: Rules Information

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this newest Pixel Progression post. If there’s topics you want to read about in future posts, you can let me know in the second survey. There’s a question asking you for input at the very end.
